On the last weekend of June we had a vertical tasting of many Lethbridge vintages to celebrate our nomination for the Gourmet Traveller Wine Winemaker Of The Year 2009 award.  The wines all looked very good and we were pleased with how they had developed.  Below is a quick summary of how the wines that we tasted were looking.

2002 Lethbridge Chardonnay: Still has beautifully vibrant acidity and great complexity. Will cellar for another 3-5 years, although we noticed some bottle to bottle variability.
2004 Allegra Chardonnay: Wonderfully complex, great acid. Will cellar at least five more years. None available at winery, however Burwood Cellars does have a few cases available.
2000 Pinot Noir: Showing some nice aged characters, still holding together, but if you have any in the cellar drink now.
2002 Pinot Noir: A favorite on the day. 2002 was a very lightly cropped year and we used a lot of whole bunch which has aged spectacularly. Drink now or could cellar for 2-3 more years.
2003 Pinot Noir: Looking like a good Village Burgundy with some lovely smoky bacon character, Drink Now.
2005 Mietta: A glorious wine, I had to twist Rays arm to get this one on the table as museum stocks of this are minimal, cellar for 5 years.
2001 Shiraz (Black Cap): Described by one taster as the most accessible wine of the day. Some lovely spicy shiraz characters, aging very well. Drink now.
2001 Shiraz (Gold Cap): This wine was the precursor to the Indra Shiraz and had an extra 12 months in oak compared to the black cap. Some lovely developed characters, showing a little more age than the black cap. Drink now.
2002 Indra Shiraz: The first vintage of Indra from a great cool year and showing good intensity and flavour. Could definitely be cellared for another 2-5 years, but is drinking well now.
2004 Indra: Still very youthful, intense, elegant and complex. Cellar for 5-8 years.
2001 Merlot: Sensational!! Drinking beautifully, Ray was a little nervous about his one, but it was great. The few bottles that were available were sold within about 30 minutes.
2005 Merlot: Very St Emilion, still has years, cellar for 3-6 years.
2003 Zinfandel: Very savoury and spicy, could go quite a few years, but tasting so good now. Drink now or cellar for 1-3 years.
